GY Chinese Takeout
27 Roseneath Place, EH9 1JD, Edinburgh
from Sam (17%) on March 22nd, 2008 (8 months ago)
I went to order some food for collection and they managed to keep me waiting for about 30 mins in the takeaway, they explained that they had forgotten to put the order through, this was unacceptable considering that the place was dead quiet.
I got home and found that my chow mein contained so much msg that after 2 mouthfuls I had to send it to the trash can.
Disappointed with the food and surprised that the previous reviews are all good and I definitely would not go back there in a hurry.

The Two Bridges
Newhalls Road, EH30 9TA, Edinburgh
from Greg Jenkins (17%) on March 9th, 2008 (8 months ago)
I have never been to such a terrible pub in all my life. The waiter who served us was dirty and unkept as well as being rude.
We ordered Cullen Skink which my fiance and I enjoy and had been looking forward too. It was disgusting and we did not finish eating it. My soft drink was served in a battered glass into which the waiter had stuck the can on top of the ice.
I felt we were treated with complete indifference and I will not make the mistake of going there again.

Bangalore Tandoori Restaurant
52 Home Street, EH3 9NA, Edinburgh
from Joa (17%) on February 17th, 2008 (9 months ago)
I ordered a take-away dinner last night. The food was drenched with Curd (oil) and the sauces were brightly coloured. When I scraped back the sauce on the prawns, I noticed that they were green / black. The food did not taste good and my girlfriend and I were unable to eat it. This is the worst Indian take-away that I am aware of.

Britannia Spice
150 Commercial Street, EH6 6LB, Edinburgh
from Bryan (65%) on February 14th, 2008 (9 months ago)
You know those types of reviews that seem to overstate how bad something is, purely because it is an otherwise popular venue.
This will be one of those types of reviews.
I can't believe how awful this place is. Menu: confused. Staff: uppity. Price: prepostrous.
Why people would come here and pay mountains when you can get far better and far cheaper at Kebab Mahal, Verandah, Eastern Pavilions etc etc, is a mystery. It could be that it's a restaurant in a nice location with few parking difficulties and is therefore a place for people for whom parking is more important than the quality of the food.
And it keeps winning awards - aargh!
As stated earlier, this probably isn't the worst curry house in town and I've likely exaggerated how bad it is. But, no doubt, it is a good way distant from being one of edinburgh's best. Try somewhere else.

Starbucks
2 Colinton Road, EH10 5DT, Edinburgh
from Bryan (65%) on February 14th, 2008 (9 months ago)
It finally happened; I went into a Starbucks. I went into this Starbucks to meet people who used to be my friends. I like coffee so how bad could it be? Pretty bad it turned out. My coffee was virulently bad, weak, tasteless. Impossible to hazard a guess at what country it came from (if any). And the carrot cake was rubbish too. My former friends all loved it so they clearly don't know anything about coffee and my suspicion is that what they love is the cuteness of the curly-haired 5 year-old whose successful parents were sitting smugly on the sofa looking smugly at each other.
Starbucks is Tony Blair, Ikea, Toploader, Jamie Oliver and all the other vain vacuous pointless aspects of our once great society.

Buckstone Bistro
Braid Hills Hotel, EH10 6JD, Edinburgh
from SM (17%) on January 16th, 2008 (10 months ago)
Service was slow and got some orders wrong despite the place being virtually empty. No surprise really.
Food was virtually all deep fried and of poor quality, presentation not good and some in party had to wait a long time for main course. Atmosphere non-existent.
For a place that could do very well it was disappointing.

Bar Italia
100-104 Lothian Road, EH3 9BE, Edinburgh
from John Hunt (17%) on January 11th, 2008 (10 months ago)
Absolutely catastrophic. The worst house wine I have ever tasted and two very average pizzas which took an hour to arrive (restaurant was about 1/5 full) because waiter and pizza chef somehow contrived to mislay the order check.
Bill was presented with 10% service charge which was the final insult. This was deducted along with another 50% for the substandard food, wine and service supplied. Frankly, they were lucky to get any money at all and the payment of only half the bill prompted threats of them calling the police.
'Go ahead' I replied. 'It's our fault this place is so appalling?'.
Avoid unless very drunk and very hungry. This being so, you'd be as well going for a kebab.

STAY AWAY IF YOU HAVE KIDS!!! The owner screamed at my 3 year old as he was watching trains go by - have no professionalism at all. AVOID! Go to the lovely restaurant next door - quality of food and service puts this place to shame.

Wannaburger

from Teddy (26%) on December 4th, 2007 (1 year ago)
Wow! This place should come with a warning- CR*P! Why isn't anyone spreading the news...? This place was heaving, full of idiots like myself paying stupid amounts of money for a burger, then chips, then whatever other side you may fancy and it was all awful! The half a star is simply for the food because the service was really very good, but I can't justify paying £7 upwards for a burger and have it be for a good service experience. AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL, don't do it! If you want to throw some money away give it to charity and go hungry for a day! You'll thank me.
