La Rusticana

Attended a birthday dinner here, the staff were fairly efficient, but they could have given a smile now and then. The food was average and quiet bland, and very expensive. The portions were small. The place was small and found it quite squashy, we were a party of 14, crammed into a corner. We really could not recommend it to anyone. We will not be back here again.

We booked for 8 people last saturday night, the food wasn't bad but the service was shocking.
The food arrived in dribs and drabs, literally 5 mins or more between each couple of dishes arriving. The first person to get their whole meal received it a good half hour before the last person. We had not ordered starters so the order wasn't exactly complex.
The staff were useless at chasing the food up, saying it was because they were busy (same excuse the manager gave us). Well duh, it's a restaurant on a Saturday night, get staff accordingly!!!
Absolutely hopeless service, and in the end we got 20% off the bill... eventually!!!
wouldn't recommend it.

This has got to be one of the worst meals I have been to in a while. The service is absolutely terrible.
We booked a table on a Saturday night for 2. We ordered starters and main course. Starters came out without too long a wait but it went down hill from there. People who had come in after us had got their starters and main courses before us. When we asked the waiter where our main courses were they realised there had been a mistake and they had 'forgotten' our main courses. They didn't exactly prioritise our main courses after that either as in total we waited nearly 1 and a half hours for our main courses - we only ordered simple pasta dishes too.
Staff were mildly apologetic but we will not be returning. Food was very average for the price.
If you like Italian food I would recommend going somewhere else.

Thought I would give it a try - just for a change from our regular place - and won't be going back. Beef chow mein was acceptable but the crispy shredded beef was neither crispy or shredded, and was bulked out with so many vegetables I wondered why they bothered calling it beef.
Yuck.

Unfotunately my dining experience here did not match that of other reviewers. The food was tasty enough and the menu had a good assortment of dishes which I hadn't seen before (I am not someone who has a favourite curry and will have it wherever I go, I like to mix it up a bit - keeps it interesting although I do sometimes end up with things slightly hotter than I can handle). I went for Garlic Kharsani, which was very tasty although slightly hotter than I can handle (oops - it is described as "hot" on the menu).
A couple of my dining companions opted for the Mismas which they were very disappointed with. This is reflected a little in my rating, however, the main reason for the poor rating was that the the service was some of the worst I have ever experienced (although it was probably not as bad as Sportsters where the staff seem to be intent on purposefully ignoring customers). It took a full 2 hours for us to be served with our main courses. This is almost certainly related to the fact that I was dining in the "party room" in a group of around 20. You might say then that this was our fault but if a restaurant is going to accept bookings of that scale then they should only do so if they have the facilities to cope with them. Furthermore, it was not as though the main resatuarant was full - I would say it was at 30% of capacity max.

Edinburgh Quay, EH3 9QG, Edinburgh
from Alice Webster (17%) on July 28th, 2008 (4 months ago)
Went here for a meal recently, DON'T GO! One of the worst meals I've ever had. The staff insisted thet it was table service, however we had to go to the bar for drinks twice because they were pointedly ignoring us. The place was practically empty on a Friday evening and the toilets were a complete mess. The whole place smells of chip fat and the meal was not cheap for what it was. Very disappointing as it used to be better.

The Grain Store

In contrast to the above reviews our experience of this restaurant was very disappointing. Initially, we were informed that half the starters and mains were off (at 8:00pm on a Sunday night). We ordered from the remaining, and most of the food was ok, though undistinguished. The service was so poor that we didn't tip (we always tip). Worst feature by far was the cheese - this was atrocious, which is quite a feat for a restaurant directly above I. J. Mellis. It had clearly sat out for a long, long time. On arrival we noticed the table next door arguing with the waiter, by the time we left we could see why.

They say you should judge a place by there toilets if this is the case I would not like to see inside their kitchen.
1. Rude staff with attitude.
2. Filthy toilets (Male & Female)
3. If you like frozen oven chips amd mashed garden peas with everything it should be ok for you!

Unpleasant, cash and carry, microwaved food at gastro-pub prices. OK if you want a drink and are on the pull, avoid if you're looking for decent food.

We went here the other night and I have to say it was a big mistake. Reviews had been very good but when we arrived there it seemed like a completely different restaurant. The atmosphere was completely lacking as we were the only table in the place bar one other for a Thursday night. Firstly we tried to order white wine and they didn't have our first 3 choices?!
The menu is not the clearest with starters being named as starters/tapas. I tried to order shelled prawn tails in garlic and parsley butter which was met after a few minutes with the fact they didnt have them but they did have atlantic prawns in olive oil?!
At our table we had a few different starters. I opted for scallops which were very good, a couple of people had mussles which they have said are the worst they have had - gritty, small and no taste.
Mains were slightly better with the majority of the table going for steaks which seemed to be the best option as they looked and tasted brilliant. I had salmon which was also good - but possibly slightly over cooked.
Puddings wise the choice was limited to say the least - chocolate cake or sticky toffee pudding. The sticky toffee pudding was very poor and very gritty (hadnt been cooked enough to dissolve the sugar). Overall very poor choice of puddings on offer.
Trying to pay was also an effort as we were informed that they didnt take cards - after 7 of us had eaten and drunk? So put a bit of a dampener on the night as meant we had to try and find a bank machine and get enough people to take money out to cover it - when it was a work night out.
Overall for the location of the restaurant it should be better - it is right in the heart of the tourist trap and its offering is very poor overall. It has recently changed hands so it may have been better before but I would steer clear and choose somewhere else if you can.
Starters/Tapas range from £4.95-£5.95
Mains range from £9.95 (vegie option), £12.95 (salmon), £18.95 (steak)
