Bangalore Tandoori Restaurant
52 Home Street, EH3 9NA, Edinburgh
from Rajeev (13%) on May 9th, 2008 (1 week ago)
One of the worst restuarants I have been to in Edinburgh. Me and couple of my friends went for dinner but left half way through due to the exemplary rude behaviour of the staff. Suggestion for people visiting the restaurant.
You have to order the starters along with the main dish - chef won't cook otherwise. Attitude.
Minimum order otherwise you will not be served but nothing is mentioned about this in the menu.
If you question the staff about the service? Sir Do you see we have so many staff employed here and we have to pay them. So we will have to rip you off for meeting our operational costs.
Surprised the restaurant is still in business.

The Caley Sample Room

We used to live on Slateford Road and spent many a happy night on the beer in The Sample Room. I was interested to see what it was like now but was bitterly disappointed. Firstly I ordered a pint of the guest ale "Quaff" which was so cloudy it was undrinkable. The replacement pint of Horizon was not much better - er, the horizon must have been quite near that day. The staff were very pleasant but didn't seem to have the necessary skill to keep decent beer. A straw poll round the room showed that nobody was drinking real ale - a sorry tale on the premises that used to be the flagship for the fine Caledonian Brewery. Sad to report the food was no better - my roast beef was tough and served with roast potatoes that would have given you a sore one if fired out a catapult. My pal's risotto was bland, colourless and overpriced. We left and went to Diggers to wash our mouths out - a much more pleasant experience.

Terrible, older man named Bill unbelivebly rude and didn't value custom atall, would not go there again. After 45 mins of complete errors was given a meal under value of meal I paid for then they refused give us back the difference. All in all, disgusted.

All Bar One

Well, I know it's a chain and all that but it was totally RUBBISH. I went there yesterday for lunch with a client for a quick bite to eat and I was embarrassed to have taken someone to somewhere where the food was total and utter guff. We both ordered Steak sandwich with mustard and caramalised red onions. Sounds like it couldn't really go wrong, pretty basic but tasty fare but NO, it was pants. The sarnies arrived with a small side salad of rocket leaves (which were actually ok). The sarnie was dry, the bread tasted as though it was meant to be toasted, the beef was absolute cheapo rubbish - really fatty, not tasty and just plonked in the sandwich. The mustard wasn't spread properly so one mouthful was evilly hot and then that was it for the rest of the meal. The onions tasted pretty nice but there were hardly any of them and again they were just plonked in one end of the sandwich. I was so disappointed as it's not hard to make a good sandwich - all you need are good ingredients and a bit of care and this had none of the above. Wouldn't bother with the food ever again. It's quite a good place for a few summer drinks outside as it's a real sun trap and the wine is usually good too with good service but for food I would go anywhere else first - apart from that Sardi place as that sounds rubbish and at least the staff at AB1 don't verbally abuse you!

Freezer fare, with a client base of OAPs from Morningside. We came after a bracing walk, looking for good food and atmosphere and got a Little Chef experience. No thanks...

I asked to book a very early evening table for one for 5.45pm. I needed a quick bite to eat in between performing Saturday matinee and evening shows at the Churchill theatre. The person taking the booking was very polite until I told him I was dining alone. He became abrupt and told me I'd have to be in and out in 1/2 hour. I kept my reservation but am now so appalled at this that I won't be going. They have lost my business and that of any friends I have that I often dine out with.

I just discovered it, enjoyed it for a few days until the 'nasty supervisor' started to shout abuse at me after I politely mentioned that I had been first in line when she blatantly ignored me and went on to serve someone else. She was having more than a bad day when she slammed my coffee down telling me I didn't need to complain. Umh sorry but I don't think it's to difficult for her to see who's right in front of her. Anyway there is no excuse for her shocking behaviour and I have to say in all honesty that this is the first time in my entire life that anyone has ever shouted abuse at me whilst taking money from my hand. I certainly won't be stopping by there again.

Beautiful building, excellent location, tasteful decor. Unfortunately our burgers were delivered almost an hour late, and one was cold. Other guests reported a 45min delay on a soup order which was also delivered cold. Dreadful. We didn't complain, mainly because we were too weak with the hunger by that point, and the staff had that slow walking slow talking look of not giving a damn anyway. We dropped in on a lunch meet-up, so returned late to work, unsatisfied and and considerably less well off as the burgers were over £11 each, which might have been acceptable had they been delicious, hot and on time. Not a lot to ask for really.

Chiang Mai
15 Dalry Road, EH11 2BQ, Edinburgh
from louise (20%) on February 11th, 2008 (3 months ago)
My partner and I live in the area and decided to finally try Chaing Mai. We went on a friday night and it was very quiet - only 4 other tables. It all seemed to be going well until we had to ask for our drinks order 3 times and even then we had to go to the bar to remind them of our order.
We ordered the mixed starter and it was the worst one we have had in Edinburgh. The tiny spring rolls and fried prawns tasted like they were from a frozen supermarket packet.
Over an hour later we still didnt have our main courses even though the restaurant was still as empty as when we arrived. After the awful starter, waiting for drinks and non-existent main course, we decided to leave.
After explaining to the waiter why we wanted to leave there was no apology at all. Not even a 'goodbye' when we left.
We will definitely not return to this dreadful restaurant when there are other wonderful cheaper thai restaurants in Edinburgh.

Golden Dragon
21 Castle St, EH2 3DN, Edinburgh
from Scott (20%) on January 29th, 2008 (3 months ago)
Absolutely terrible. Completely over priced. Little to no vegetables in main courses, just a weakly flavoured sauce (mostly corn flour) and some sort of meat.
