I had used this takeaway before, food was okay but delivery was near an hour. I tried again last night and I'm never using them again. Delivery took 2 hours for 3 items. However none of the 3 I got were mine. I phoned up and was asked if I wanted a credit to my card or a replacement. Seen as it was now 9 at night and I'd eaten nothing I asked for a replacement. Which I waited for another hour! I received a phonecall from the delivery driver around 15 minutes after the first delivery asking if I had the receipt for her next delivery. Yes I said. I had to read all the details of it to her - but she assured me I had the correct meal. I did not. A simple mistake but she now wanted to collect it and deliver it, I had already opened it taken one bite and realised it wasn't mine. This didn't impress her. This entire experience didn't impress me and I'm not going back. I know it was a Saturday and they're busy but all other takeaways can manage, at least when I order pizza I get it within the hour.
I really wouldn't use them, they appear very smart and professional but the service just doesn't match and the food isn't as high quality or pleasant as you would expect. I largely suspect there is a huge element of reheating when you order as there is something not quite right about it when it arrives.

Not worth even a penny. Main course Sea Food Trio was the worst allocated £14.95 in my life and felt very bad all day next day! This was our best restaurant but it is now the second time in the last 3 months we have been really disappointed. Even favorite meringue did not cheer me up after awful dinner. Wish I sent my food back to the chef so he could enjoy it!

Rubbish. If I am not ill this evening I will be surprised. Service took ages although we were told we would have to wait 25 mins to get our food. Not in a rush so thought that would be fine, we'll order starter in meantime. Ordered wedges with cheese - basically couple of wedges microwaved with cheese in bowl... £4 please. I ordered sausage and mash (pretty basic) and other half ordered rump steak. Basically my sausages were pretty much raw upon serving and mash also clearly been microwaved - refused to pay for that dish and did not bother ordering anything else. Rump steak was cooked but again, pretty poor... better places near by!

I've read the other reviews of this restaurant and I'm quite amazed, as it doesn't remotely resemble my experience last Saturday night. I can honestly say it was one of the worst meals I've ever had in my life. We (my boyfriend and I) ordered bread and dips for starter, and it basically tasted like something bought from a supermarket. For main, I had the qaysi shilah casserole, which was described as being 'sweet and sour'. In reality, it was 'sweet and sweeter'. It was overpoweringly sweet - particularly considering it was meant to be a savoury course - and frankly inedible. I've been served bad food plenty of times, but very rarely is it so bad that I literally cannot eat it. Because I'm not familiar with Kurdish food, I didn't know if it was meant to be like that or if it was just badly cooked - so I didn't complain (although I know I should have done!) The service was pretty bad as well - very slow, and very inattentive. Not once did the waiter ask us if we were enjoying out food, which made me wonder if he knew how bad it was.
On a slightly more positive note, my boyfriend had the ghost kebab which he described as OK, but nothing special. So basically, I definitely won't be going back!

As the lunch menu says lunch is served until 7pm, we booked a table here for 6pm. After reading a review on The List we were a bit worried that lunch was only served until 5pm so, not wanting to pay dinner prices (as it seemed expensive for what it was), we phoned to check. We were told lunch was only served until 5pm so we were going to cancel but was then informed that on Sundays they actually do a brunch menu all day so we kept our booking. When we arrived we were presented with the (expensive) dinner menu. When we asked about the brunch menu they told us it was only served until 5pm. After explaining that we had been told it was the brunch menu all day they let us look at it but there was no Sunday roast or sausage and mash (the only reasonable items on the brunch menu) so we decided just to leave. Might be really nice food but we never found out. From first impressions it seemed nice for lunch/brunch but the dinner menu seemed very expensive for the surroundings (it can't decide whether it's a bar or restaurant).

Saturday night so very busy. Very loud and crowded, studenty atmosphere. Drinks extortionate, cheapest bottle of wine £15 (house) most priced at over £22 per bottle for a mediocre offering. Service average, but we had a nice apologetic waiter when our wait for 2 pizzas took well over 35 minutes. Not worth the wait - very bland. Very disappointing experience. Felt slightly ripped off.

I called this takeaway and was informed my meal would take 30 mins to be delivered. 45mins later the shop called me to confirm my card details even though I had asked them to repeat them to me. As it was now 10.35 in the evening I asked that my order be cancelled as I was informed that they hadn't started cooking it yet. Whoever I was speaking to at the time then called me a stupid Bl***y Cow & hung the phone up. After calling them back and saying that was not good business practice they hung up on me again. Funny perhaps, but I was already an existing customer! Needless to say 'Monsoon' will lose all of my business and any of my contact's business.

To be honest I should have walked straight out when I saw the state of the tables - if they can't be bothered cleaning the bits that customers see then what is the kitchen going to be like? The service was fine and the Japanese beer was good but that's about it. The food was awful and very poor value for money. The miso soup to start was bog standard and served in grotty dishes. The rice was badly cooked and my chicken was greasy, tough and obviously re-heated. My husband got the tiniest sliver of salmon, a really poor portion. Dessert was pancake and ice cream (hard to get wrong) served with an array of giant greasy fingerprints around the edge of the plate. Avoid.

What can I say except this is possibly the worst restaurant I have had the misfortune to eat in for a long time. I went with my partner's work colleagues (not out of choice) and I should at this point state they, unlike me, seemed to enjoy it - perhaps this was linked to the amount of alcohol they had had before we arrived.
Stepping into this restaurant is like entering a canteen covered in terrible ancient Rome frescos (ceiling as well)/ garden centre with copious romanesque plastic statues drapped in cheap fairy lights. We entered at 8.30 on a Friday night and although the restaurant is large there were only 4 other diners. So far, so bad. The waiting staff were rude and despondent - probably because they have to work there every night. The food was not that expensive but it was dreadful. The pasta bland and flavourless, the mozarella salad tired and the olives dry and tasteless. As a previous reviewer mentions all dishes appear to come with chips, not even a continental french fry, but stodgy chips that looked like they were straight out of the freezer. When we asked about the red wine, we were advised by the waitress not to have the Merlot as an earlier customer had complained that theirs was fizzy!
However, all of this pales in comparison to the slightly surreal experience of having the option to perform karaoke during the meal!
Maybe the combination of mediocre food and karaoke is just lost on me, but I think I can pretty much guarantee that I will not be going back any time soon.

Mya Restaurant
92 Commercial Street, EH6 6LX, Edinburgh
from Rab (17%) on September 10th, 2008 (2 months ago)
I booked Mya for a family birthday party, booking a table for 6 at 7.00pm. I even phoned the night before to make doubly sure our booking was secure as two of our party were coming from the Borders and I didn't want to leave anything to chance with it being a Friday night on a rugby international weekend. When we arrived, on the dot at 7.00pm, however, they had given our table away. Why? Because, in spite of my repeating my booking twice, they had booked the table for 6.00pm (presumably for 7 people!). They couldn't understand why I was a little upset by this. In the end we were squeezed onto a table by the door. The service was by far the unfriendliest I have ever experienced in Edinburgh and the food was average at best. Thanks, Mya, for making my brother's 60th Birthday such a memorable experience, but for all the wrong reasons.
