This place is great for Sunday lunch. £10 for 3 courses when I last went and each one very tasty. So if you want good reliable food and no washing up on Sunday.... Watch out for the seafood crepe, it's very rich. Great for groups on a budget.

I've been to the Granary for lunch. The ambiance is great, and service was quick. My food was pretty good, however, one of my companions said each and every one of her mussels were "crunchy". Eww.

Mussel Inn

Good quality mussels. I've never tried anything else, as it seemed to miss the point of the place a little - though I have had starters and they were good. Staff seems to understand the need for a steady stream of bread (to soak up all those juices in the pots of mussels) which is always nice.

Expensive but good food. I agree with pafc, the dining room is beautiful but with the hard surfaces a bit loud. If I wanted Italian, I'd go to Papilio in Bruntsfield for quieter ambiance and better value for money.

I can't say it better than rachybaby (review above) but all I will add is that it's worth getting on the Montpelier chain's email list - because you'll get occasional 50% off your meal deals and other offers valid at places in their stable of restaurants.

Great food and wine. Ambiance is better downstairs. Service can be quite slow, but the food is generally worth the wait.

Good food, great wine selection. It's a popular place and not very big, so reservations or arriving before busy times is recommended.

Good food but not spectacular - it seems a bit overrated. The "spicy" curry I ordered was not spicy at all.

La Partenope

I enjoy the food here, and have had good luck with what I've ordered (the seafood platter in particular) however my dining companions have at times not been so lucky. On one occasion, a companion complained of overly greasy food, and on another occasion, my companion paid about the same as I did for my meal and got a lot less food (that was overcooked), so needless to say he was disappointed. All that said, I think it is a fairly good restaurant - if you choose carefully you will be satisfied.

Sygn

Sygn is a bar I go to quite regularly, either with a work crowd or with groups of friends. Thursday nights are particularly good as they have a jazz singer with a live pianist.
The cocktail waiters are second to none in Edinburgh, very inventive and helpful. You get free bar snacks too with are scrummy (last time we had amazing olives and honey glazed sweet potato crisps...mmmm... delicious) I haven't ever eaten in Sygn, apart from buying bar snacks - which were amazing - but I am told it is excellent. I have always found the staff friendly and very helpful.
I really like Sygn and much prefer it to their neighbour 'IY' which I find to be full of the pretentious suit crowd. Sygn is stylish and personal and I would thoroughly recommend it!
