On Sunday night, 7 of us got together for a nice meal before enjoying the night on town, but this wasn't QUITE the start we envisaged.
The service was hit and miss. Although we had booked on an offer, the waiter first of all told us that the offer was over and had to go and check. It then took quite a bit of work to sort out the wine - even when asked "what the grape was" for the wine on offer, we got the highly detailed "red" or "white". Not QUITE what we were looking for. When the drinks did arrive (which was pretty prompt), we were asked did we want drinks... 5 secs after the SAME waiter had served us. There's hard sells, and there are hard sells. And then there are silly attempted sells.
The food was up to the usual standard, but the plating could have been slightly better. Although it was tasty, a think a second slice of beef would have been a nice touch - even if it was part of an offer! How much extra would it have cost? Really!
Prior to this, I've always had a great meal at any of the Apex hotels, and I'll assume this was a glitch in the normal high standard. I will be back again.

Went here for a family meal on Sunday. Was ushered downstairs by the french speaking staff. Very friendly I found. We had booked so there was no waiting.
Service was quite quick but there were no beers on the menu and thankfully I spotted a chap with a Kronenburg. We had 5 different starters.
Mussels - tasty
Rabbit Terrine - awful
Black Pudding - good
Escargot - very garlicy - not much snail to taste - nice though if you like garlic
Brie in filo pastry - very nice
Needless to say we all tried all of these.
When it came to mains though there was less to choose from that looked good. I nearly had the bouilliabase and chickened out for the steak as did 2 of my fellow diners. One had Monkfish, which was fine (comes with mussels - not mentioned on menu) and the final person had lamb. The mains were ok but the starters were much more enjoyable. The veg was universally approved of.
My steak was quite fatty - more rump than sirloin to be honest.
The desserts were quite varied, we had one person on cheeseboard (not great) creme brulee (very nice) choc tart x2 (good) and crepes - very nice.
All in all it was mostly very nice. Our experience was tainted by screaming 2 years olds 5 feet away (2 of them) and this was at 8.30 - 10 pm on a Sunday.
I'm sure many people love it, personally I found the mains to be mediocre. With great starters and deserts it may not be enough to get me to go back.
The bill was about £160.

I'm going to do a brief review this time - you'll see why shortly. So I'll need to go back and see it a second time to be certain it deserves a higher mark.
I brought 23 chaps (on a quiet stag do) to this place on Saturday. We were well behaved but possibly a little louder than most groups. We arrived on time at 8pm. Only one awkward chap had a starter. The rest of us enjoyed Cobra beers and waited patiently (45 minutes) for our mains. When they did arrive they were fantastic. Everyone enjoyed their grub, the naan was served in a manner suitable for hungry men in a rush to get back to the pub. The bill for all the food came to £22 / head which wasn't bad considering we'd had loads of naan each, rice, a main (most cost around a tenner) and 2 beers.
The setting was fine, the service was quick and helpful (when we wanted beer). I'll definitely go again and would recommend it for large groups.

Ordered a selection of dishes for takeaway from here on a Friday night. I live round the corner so chose to collect - the food was ready in 15 minutes. The woman who served me was very polite. The highlight of the food was the deep fried shredded shicken in chilli sauce - sometimes this dish can be a bit dry but our one came with plenty of sauce which included green chillis to give a nice kick. The rest of the dishes were up to the expected standard for Chinese takeaway.
Overall it was decent value and as it is just round the corner from my flat, I will probably return.

Verandah Tandoori

The Verandah Tandoori is arguably one of Edinburgh's best Indian restaurants. Prices are reasonable if a tad on the higher side for an Indian restaurant but the food is superb.
Deliveries to your home can be sketchy at times but given that this venue does not have a dedicated delivery service you take your chance.
The Verandah Tandoori has a good atmosphere and good service.

If you can't afford the £250,000 required to buy a 1 bedroom shoebox in this recently finished Norman Foster designed block in the new Quartermile development, you can at least pop into this cafe on the ground floor for a coffee. It's a smart little place and the coffee isn't much more expensive than anywhere else. The food is very pricey though - some of the small open sandwiches are over a fiver. Needless to say, I didn't get to find out if they were worth it!

On Saturday night I did what I always do when I can't be bothered to cook or even choose something to order from a takeaway - I phoned a Chinese and ordered a lemon chicken and boiled rice.
I live just round the corner so went to collect. The food was good. The sauce wasn't the really gloopy bright orange kind you often get in British Chinese restaurants. I guess it was more authentic and healhier like that, but less tasty!
Anyway, the price was as I expected, the staff were friendly and it's nearby, so I'll probably use them again.
