Thai Lemongrass
40-41 Bruntsfield Place, EH10 4HJ, Edinburgh
from jwjlewis (76%) on July 21st, 2007 (1 year ago)
Good food and service; for both eat in and take away. One of the best Thai restaurants around. The atmosphere is most congenial and the staff are friendly. One wonderful feature is the ceiling fans. They help to keep the air moving (obviously) but unlike normal fans - which blow air down - these suck it up. Therefore they move the air without creating a draft across you or your food - a wonderful touch.

The Sheep Heid Inn

A superb place for a quiet drink. It is everything you want from a lovely country pub, and it only just the other side of Arthur's Seat. It has skittles and friendly staff. It also has a pianola with a selection of music scrolls on top that look uncannily like a load of wands! A truly magical place.

Rick's

A great little place. I had steak and it was most tasty. The decor is modern and the ambiance is, whilst not overly cosy, convivial to a lovely meal, be it for two or 10! I would strongly recommend this place for a good evening out.

Ann Purna

Ann Purna has great food and after a few visits you feel like part of the family. Even though it is veggie, the menu is quite varied and long. Really friendly and nice relaxed atmosphere.

Cafe Marlayne
76 Thistle Street, EH2 1EN, Edinburgh

Little gem of a restaurant slightly hidden away in the New Town on Thistle Street. Very small - cosy verging on cramped. The night we went (a Tuesday) we hadn't booked but were lucky to get a table - there are only 8. While we were there they had to turn a couple away - make sure you book, even on supposedly quiet nights.
Menu is largely dominated by fish. I had mussels to start and then monkfish. Both were excellent. The monkfish dish was the tastiest dish I've eaten for a while. The menu changes daily and is well priced. Most expensive main was under £15 with the average probably £13.
Only thing that let them down slightly was that one of the two waitresses was a bit short. In manner, not stature. A shame, but the food more than made up for it.

The Sizzling Scot

Amazing. Great food cooked just right. Certainly no nouvelle cuisine will be found here! The staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful, in just the right measure. And then came pudding, this was pie with cream, ice-cream or custard, or if you ask nicely - ALL THREE!

Great restaurant, great food, great staff and pleasant atmosphere. I asked for a vodka and cranberry - when they said they didn't have cranberry I told them that the Spar about 1km up the road did. Within 10 mins I had a vodka and cranberry. Now THAT is service!

I am not a veggie, but I love this restaurant. The staff are so friendly and the food is exceptional. Whether you are a vegetarian or not, this place is worth visiting.
