No. 1 Sushi Bar

37 Home Street, EH3 9JP, Edinburgh

4.5 from profeta77 (59%) on June 10th, 2008 (1 month ago)

This is the second time I go there and I've been delighted every time.

Wine is great.

Service is brilliant.

Portions are massive.

Prices are more than correct.

Taste is fantastic.

Two words: JUST GO!

In more details, you can have a sushi or sashimi mix (8 pieces) with Miso soup for £10. Or a Seafood special rice with Miso soup for £9. Any rice or noodle meal is massive well enough for two or for big appetite. At last my favourite ever are the dumplings.

La Favorita

325-331 Leith Walk, EH6 8SA, Edinburgh

4.5 from Sandervdd (13%) on June 3rd, 2008 (1 month ago)

I can be really short about this amazing restaurant. Simply the best pizzas in town, very friendly staff and extremely fast even when they're really busy! I always get my pizzas for take-away and I never have to wait long. Get a tub of mixed icecream as well, they can be quite generous in the serving for a few quid!

Rhubarb

Prestonfield House Hotel, EH16 5UT, Edinburgh

4.5 from David (19%) on May 29th, 2008 (1 month ago)

I got married here so am a bit biased. But it's a great place, great food, top-class service, superb atmosphere, and not stuffy in the least. Just sheer class and quality really.

A top place to go and treat yourself every now and again.

Oloroso

33 Castle Street, EH2 3DN, Edinburgh

4.5 from David (19%) on May 29th, 2008 (1 month ago)

I love this place. The restaurant is indeed a bit expensive, but the bar menu is also very tasty and better value. Well worth a try if you want something less formal, cheaper and "less of a night out".

The Caley Sample Room

42–58 Angle Park Terrace, EH11 2JR, Edinburgh

4.5 from David (19%) on May 29th, 2008 (1 month ago)

Been here a number of times and the food is great. Great fresh ingredients, all cooking is home made to order and nothing is unwrapped from a packet and just chucked in a microwave. Nice beers too, not sure what the other reviewer is talking about.

Great value too, much better value than just about every other place in Edinburgh I can think of. I rate this place very highly indeed.

Le Marche Francais

9a West Maitland Street, EH12 5DS, Edinburgh

4.5 from Rawlie (49%) on May 29th, 2008 (1 month ago)

I love this place and I know it is one of the most popular haunts of the west end. It does a great trade in jolly good french nosh. The service can be a tad on the slow side sometimes but as long as you're not in too much of a hurry it's not so bad. If you're a regular though then they tend to work out whether you're in a hurry or not and are pretty attentive. The wine is always good and you get a good full glass too. When they started to redecorate the place looked a bit shabby and dull for a while but they've sorted it out now and it's really quite pleasant.

The food is really good. My favourite (and most people I know also agree) is the traditional croque monsieur. It is lovely, fresh and delicious. Comes with a nice salad too. The salad marche francais is also tasty - so much so that the only food i have ever eaten there is the croque and the salad!

Also does great soup - favourite is the red pepper and tomato. Very tasty. Take away sarnies are simple yet tasty.

Prices are excellent, especially considering that you can spend a lot more roundabout for food which is mass produced and frankly pretty pants.

Overall - great nosh, convenient location and very affordable. You can't go wrong.

No. 1 Sushi Bar

37 Home Street, EH3 9JP, Edinburgh

4.5 from Tess (19%) on May 22nd, 2008 (1 month ago)

My husband and I have been making our way around the Sushi places in Edinburgh and No. 1 is our third stop and so far our favourite. The service was incredibly friendly and polite without being over bearing. The sushi in the Nigiri platter was fresh and well presented. The Dragon roll was the best I have ever had and I would highly recommend it. I agree with a review I read that stated the simple decor leaves the sushi to be the star attraction but there is also a peaceful atmosphere while you're dining. Would highly recommend it.

Wok Inn

80 Bruntsfield Place, EH10 4HG, Edinburgh

4.5 from Anna Holt (19%) on May 20th, 2008 (1 month ago)

It's not like there's a shortage of chinese takeaways in our area, and I keep going back to this one. The food isn't loaded with MSG and it's not too salty either, just flavoursome and humble. They don't moan if you ask them to cook something differently, say with no onions or with a different sauce. Great for fussy people like me. They have everything you'd expect to see on the menu and they don't mind cooking up something more unusual for you. Thank you for loyally serving my food needs!
