Delicious food menu at great prices. Haven't experienced a delay with the food or bad service. Chilled out and unpretentious. Ideal place for drinks or food, day or night.

Arowana

Unit 9, Omni Centre, EH1 3AA, Edinburgh

5 from Tony (19%) on June 24th, 2008 (2 weeks ago)

We're regular customers and often order Soft shell crab maki and Barbecued Eel rice. Try out Salmon Sashimi and Golden Dragon Sushi for a taste of heaven. Definitely get Japanese Seaweed Salad. You need to know what to order to get the best, otherwise you're missing out!

A Room in Leith

1c Dock Place, EH6 6LU, Edinburgh

5 from Nicx (19%) on June 23rd, 2008 (2 weeks ago)

I don't know what everyone else is complaining about but I have had fantastic meals at A Room in Leith. Yes, the Waterfront was good but this is far better. They continue the theme from their other restaurants, A Room in the West End and A Room in the Town, both of which are also excellent. The food was great, great taste and very well presented and having the BYOB option with just £2 corkage makes the bill so much more gentle on the wallet. With Teuchters Landing next door there to have a pre and post dinner drink makes the whole experience fantastic. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to everyone and in fact, I already have, so 5 stars to you, a perfect place for the perfect evening out (and am sure lunch too).

Compass

44 Queen Charlotte Street, EH7 6EX, Edinburgh

5 from Mike (19%) on June 21st, 2008 (2 weeks ago)

One of the first places that springs to mind when going out for a meal. Food is always good, service is great, prices are very reasonable, especially for the area. Would recommend without hesitation.

Fantastic value pre-theatre meal at this wonderful new restaurant in the city. The ambience and service was also a delight. We plan to return soon to try the main menu.

Hanam's

Hanams was recommended to me by a friend when I was frantically trying to book for a party of 15 that weekend. And I'm so glad he did!

The food at Hanams is good, hearty Kurdish fare - the kebabs are tender and the tashreebs were a winner with many of our party. The staff at this family run restaurant didn't seem fazed at all by having to cook for our rowdy rabble and were friendly and accommodating. As others have said, Hanams is BYOB and they don't charge corkage, which is great for your budget.

After the weekend I e-mailed the restaurant to thank them for their fantastic service and got a lovely e-mail back from our waitress on the night. :)

Hanams certainly get top marks for customer service - on another occasion we happened to accidentally drop in on Kurdish New Year and were greeted with balloons and streamers as the family themselves ate at the next table!

Thai Orchid

5a Johnston Terrace, EH1 2PW, Edinburgh

I absolutely love this restaurant! Where do I start? I only discovered the Thai Orchid last month and already we've eaten there four times. The decor is subtle and the lighting is low, but not so low that you can't read the menu (as I've found in some places!). The menu itself is amazing, with dishes like Tiger Cry sirloin (wow, the flavours!), gorgeous soups, delectable fishcakes and Panang curries which will bring tears to your eyes - and I'm not just talking about the chillies. ;) The mix of spices and flavours are quite unlike anything I've ever experienced before and always leave me hungry for more, in a metaphorical sense! Every time I've eaten at the Thai Orchid I've come away with a warm, satisfied glow and a huge smile on my face.

A special mention goes to the staff at the Thai Orchid, as they're lovely. They're knowledgeable about the dishes, very conscientious about service and they always have a smile for you. :)
