Koi
30 Potterrow, EH8 9BT, Edinburgh

We had a nice meal here the Friday night before Christmas. It wasn't as busy as we expected it to be - there were a couple of large Christmas party groups in and a few couples. We didn't go for the Tappanyake - it looks like fun but better if you're there as a group rather than a couple.
When we arrived we were warned that they were short-staffed and that service might be a bit slow. The service was, in fact, great and at just the pace we wanted. I suppose they could have taken our drinks order a bit sooner after we arrived but it wasn't a big deal.
We shared yummy edamame beans to start and then each had a chicken noodle dish. Both were very tasty.
If you like Wagamama's but are frustrated that one hasn't opened yet in Edinburgh then Koi is the closest I have yet had to it in Edinburgh. And they have Asahi and Kirin lagers on tap - excellent!
Looking forward to going back to try the Teppanyake.

Villager

This place probably has the worst toilets in the whole of Edindburgh - there are public toilets in a lot better nick than their's. Hmm what else, the Guinness is shocking, and they've got some anal policy about moving chairs around. "I'm sorry sir that's a fire exit route". Fire exit route? You've got a huge bloody plant pot blocking the door.
Skip it go next door to Bar Kohl.

Fishers Bistro

Very simple but very good food. The menu was excellent with loads of options that I would have liked to have tried. I started with Moules Mariniere which were the best I've ever eaten. For main course I had Sea Bass with fennel and orange marmalade - the Bass was excellent but the marmalade didn't bring as much to the dish as I'd expected.
Excellent service - our waiter was friendly, attentive and looked a bit like Keanu Reeves in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (most excellent).

Suruchi
14a Nicholson Street, EH8 9DH, Edinburgh
from mdavidson (91%) on December 24th, 2007 (11 months ago)
I have to say that I was slightly disappointed with a recent meal at Suruchi as their website provides a list of comments from reviews, including from the Independent, "Top 20 Indian Restaurants in the UK". So I was expecting it to be in the Khushis or Voujon class of restaurant but it wasn't quite there.
I think the decoration is tired and outdated, it really could do with a total refit, which I'm sure would improve the atmoshpere. I was slightly surprised at how quiet the place was - I was in a group of ten and there were only a couple of other tables occupied and this was a Friday night. The menu is a bit more interesting than standard Edinburgh curry house offerins, with a good few dishes that I have not seen before.
I have to say that the food was very tasty, although I had a lamb dish (Malabar) and the meat was not particularly tender. On the plus side, they do have Cobra on tap and prices were very reasonable.

Bar Diesel is wonderful! Great service, amazing food and such good prices! The food was of a very high standard and the portion sizes were very generous! Located just off the shore, it is easy to get to and is well worth a try! We will be back again soon.

Top class restaurant - the decoration could be like in a museum!
Go there if you want to impress. Service is brilliant as the food is.
TIP: Food is really expensive but only £13 for a 2 course lunch!!!
Then you can go for a nice walk in the country park.

Just a regular pub grub.
I had haddock and chips that tasted dull. No accompaniment with it such as peas or salad.
Bread was tasteless.
Service friendly but food takes long to arrive.

We went there for lunch - restaurant was empty. We had crocodile salad as a starter. Did not like it so much but is is my own taste maybe. They we had a kind of kangaroo chow mein. Nothing amasing for the tongue.
Waiter was really friendly.
The restaurant might be more interesting for dinner.
Portion sizes were correct.
