I recently had a very disappointing meal here. There was nothing spectacularly bad, just a level of dull mediocrity throughout. It began with the menu – for main courses there were only 4 options; fajitas, burritos, enchiladas and another expected one that I can’t remember with an option of meats for each one. I was hoping there might have been something a bit more interesting in there, but no, it was the usual uninspiring fare.

For starter we ordered tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa dips to share. Pleasant, but we were given really stingy portions of the dips. For main, through lack of choice, I had chicken fajitas. The portion was decent enough but they didn’t taste of anything more than fried chicken, onion and pepper – I was not able to detect the smokey chilli seasoning which had been promised. They were also served without any salsa which meant that they were in no way spicy. My dining companions were similarly disappointed with their meals which were burritos or enchiladas.

When I eat out I’m not looking for something that I could cook myself, I quite enjoy cooking and consider eating out to be a bit of a treat. Therefore it was very disappointing to be served food which anyone could prepare with a little help from Old El Paso, and if you were to visit Lupe Pinto’s (the excellent deli near Tollcross) then you could probably make something far better. The bill came to £20 each for 1.5 courses (we had 2 starters between 4) and a small pitcher of margarita – pretty poor value for what we were served.

Been going for 15 years, margaritas best in Edinburgh with crushed ice. Never tried byob as we always have the above. Food is excellent too. Several quite different dishes from other Mexican restaurants in Edinburgh including a ceviche of fish.

Great traditional Mexican food... and drink!

Particularly liked the fajitas with traditional rice followed by a couple of mojitos.

Great setting, fantastic service.

Awful awful awful. This place serves food that is not fresh (it tastes like it was heated up in the microwave. The waitress was okay, but I could hear the chef blaspheming in the kitchen and being rude to his staff. Not pleasant.

The burrito was big, but had far too much cheese, as did the starter of quasadillas, which made me want to vomit.

I would NOT advise anyone to go here. Find another Mexican restaurant!

I've tasted the food at The Blue Parrot and I also worked there for a short period some years ago. I have to say that the food is always fresh and tasty and the staff are also really friendly. Honestly, there is not another place for Mexican food better that the Blue Parrot in Edinburgh. Try Margaritas, lime or strawberry and chicken fajitas - the whole menu is great!

Viva Blue Parrot Cantina. Great place, great people, great food and fantastic people!!!

The best, most authentic tasting Mexican food I have tried in Edinburgh. Highly recommended.
