Have been a few times - excellent scran!!!

Really recommend for a Stockbridge takeaway. Haven't been disappointed and have had a variety of food. Standard takeaway prices.

Food Village Chinese Takeaway, 74 Raeburn Place, EH4 1HJ, Edinburgh

I've been wracking my brains for a suitable description for last night's takeaway from Food Village and the best I could come up with is - meh.

Nothing bad, but nothing to blow me away either. Bit like Belgium really - I've been, I've seen it, it was nice enough, not sure I'd ever go back. I wouldn't seek it out, but if I ended up there again, wouldn't be upset.

Spent an evening away from home in Stockbridge so logged on to check the reviews on here and wandered down to Food Village. Shop was clean, staff were pleasant. The menu had everything you'd expect but nothing you wouldn't, nothing that made you go "ooh, I fancy that". If you picked a dozen people off the street, put them in a room and ask them to come up with a chinese takeaway menu, this is what they'd come up with. Selection of meats in a selection of sauces, some starters, some rice, some noodles - nothing that jumped out at me as being special.

Got the food home, wasn't keen on the poly boxes inside poly bags inside another poly bag (took ages to dish and seemed wasteful and other takeaways seem to manage in boxes or foil), ribs were a *little* bit lacking in meat, rib sauce was a *little* bit runny, the two spring rolls were a *little* bit on the small side, butterfly prawns were ok. Duck chow mien with bbq sauce was a *little* bit dry, mixed kung po had a *little* bit too much veg in it for my liking, rice was a *little* bit dry. All perfectly adequate, all fine, all tasty enough but mostly all a *little* less than I expected. Hopefully you can see where I'm coming from and for me, was no better than fine I'm afraid.

3 stars says "Fair" and I think fair is a fair score, nothing to offend, nothing to rave about.

Solid, not spectacular.

To give any more would more would be disrespectful to others I've marked higher, I just didn't enjoy it as much as others but it might be up your street or it might have been an off day, so give it a try and report back.

The food is alright, and tasty enough however it just isn't that authentic.

After living for many years in China, it just isn't up to what you get over there.

It seems like more of a British take on Chinese food rather than the authentic food you can find in some restaurants.

Though to be fair there aren't many authentic restaurants in Edinburgh, so its not the worst in town, but it certainly isn't the best.

Food Village Chinese Takeaway, 74 Raeburn Place, EH4 1HJ, Edinburgh

I have eaten at many a Chinese restaurant and take away in the Edinburgh and Lothians region. Food is a big part of my life and I enjoy sampling and trying all the food I can. I have had bad Chinese, okay Chinese and really good Chinese food, but NOTHING I have had in Edinburgh compares to the food from Food Village.

The food is freshly cooked with care and great skill. My usual meal from here would have to be the roast duck chow mein; I don't get the bbq sauce as I am not a fan of bbq sauce but I get a tub of curry sauce to go with it for 2 reasons. I love curry and the curry sauce from Food Village is the best curry sauce I have had from a Chinese. It tastes like the traditional Chinese curry sauce but is actually spicy too unlike most of the other curry sauces I have tried from around Edinburgh. Even the prawn crackers are fresh and to die for. All in all; every meal I have had from this place has been cooked to perfection and tastes better every time I have it. It's almost addictive.

The service is also something to be noted. The staff are polite, kind and very helpful on the phone and in the store. Even when they are very busy which seems to be a lot... I think people are catching on on how good this place is. The service is impeccable and the food is always at your door in good time and hot.

In other words if you live near this Chinese, pick up the phone and order. And even if you don't, get in a car or a bus and go get some. You will not be disappointed. Good prices, good service and some of the best Chinese food I have EVER had, makes this a must try for everyone with a hankering for some tasty take away.

Been using the food village for years and years now. Can't fault the food at all - always great.

The owner/staff answering orders and delivery guys have always been very friendly and pleasant.

Would highly recommend.

I am such a fan of Chinese food and the Food Village is by far the best Chinese takeaway I have ever had. I have Chinese food every week and have tried many of the so called ‘best’ Chinese takeaways in Edinburgh and everyone apart from the Food Village has disappointed.

I have moved to Leith but still get my Chinese food from The Food Village as even after the new Chinese restaurant opening in Leith I still rate the Food Village as the best in Edinburgh.

All the dishes I have tried are excellent and the curry sauce is exceptional. The service is fantastic and I always leave with a smile on my face after the friendly banter in the shop.

Excellent food, have been a few times now and everything I have ordered has been lovely. Even their chicken in batter (chicken balls) were really tasty and not like from other place were they can be soggy or greasy. The curry sauce is really nice too and the portions are very generous, in fact I would say they are over generous.

Easily the best Chinese takeaway I have had in Edinburgh, the owners are really nice too and very friendly so best of luck to them.

I've ordered from this place several times now and have never been disappointed, I love my Chinese food so I like to try something different each time I order. My favorite would have to be the duck with plum sauce, so sweet and succulent, but everything I've had has been excellent. Freshly cooked and great value for the quality, not packed with just vegetables like some places.

The staff are extremely friendly and polite, the whole place just has a nice atmosphere to it, and the few times I have phoned for an order it has always arrived quickly and well packaged even though I know they’re busy.

One last thing what ever your having order a tub of curry sauce just to eat with the last of the prawn crackers, the best curry sauce by far, you won't be disappointed.
