We visited Heller's Kitchen mid Sunday morning for breakfast, having been meaning to go there for some time.

Heller's Kitchen is a fairly new establishment by the owners of the New Bell Restaurant. Offering similarly locally sourced, quality ingredients as the New Bell, and an emphasis on home-baked and home-cooked foods.

The dining area is very long and narrow, with boothed seating against the walls, and a light, clean, fresh and airy decor in subtle tones which wonÂ’t shock you awake on a sleepy Sunday morning. It will also added to the subdued, relaxed evening atmosphere.

When we arrived there were a couple of tables taken, and the rest filled up quite quickly as the morning progressed.

We were welcomed and seated quickly, and our drinks orders taken and breakfast menus provided.

Heller's uses an unusual combination of menus, which could be quite confusing, but they seem to manage it adequately. There is a breakfast menu, a lunch menu, an early evening menu, a dinner menu, a snack menu, a take-away menu, and a special 'pay for the time you order menu' which means that of you orde3r at 5.35, you pay £5.35 per head. An interesting and inventive idea which must work well at times of pre-payday poverty.

We ordered a full breakfast and Eggs Benedict, and both were high quality, lovingly prepared, and of the highest quality ingredients. The Stornoway black pudding, in particular, an absolute delight. The toast was home-made and erring slightly on the hard and overly crisp side. The Eggs Benedict was presented perfectly and went down a treat.

The downside is that our order took an inordinate amount of time to arrive. The table ordering before us had their food delivered soon after our arrival, and we then sat and watched freshly baked cakes, scones, etc being brought to the display window whilst we waited over 35 minutes for our food to arrive. 35 minutes may not sound too long, but for Eggs Benedict and a full breakfast, we felt like we had been waiting far too long.

This, however, would not put us off going back. Probably several times! The food is excellent quality, the staff are very polite, friendly, and obviously love the place and the food they offer. As it got busier, it became a little cramped and chairs started to bang into other chairs, but the popularity of the place for a Sunday morning shows the quality of the place.

Highly recommended. But, perhaps, for a lazy unhurried Sunday, and not if you have somewhere to be!

Absolutely recommended for a weekend brunch, great nosh. Happy to add that it offers a great menu at reasonable prices for evening meals too. If you're feeling a bit lazy why not give it a try instead of pub grub, we did and have been back regularly since.

Owned and operated by the proprietors of the excellent New Bell, Hellers Kitchen offers a cheaper/lighter menu than their sister restaurant. Pay particular attention to the specials menu, updated regularly it contains many highlights depending on season availability. Highlight would be the fish and chips - their batter is crunchy and light, fish perfectly cooked, chips rustic and all is accompanied by their delicious home made tartar sauce. Yum yum.

And we haven't even mentioned their stunning selection of cakes and desserts. Just walk past the window one day and I defy you not to want one of those cupcakes.

Service has always been very helpful and friendly in my experience (and I have had plenty experience of it!), specials described and unfamiliar expressions explained with pleasure and no hint of upityness.

Oh, and their freshly baked bread selection with oils and balsamic is perfect to tide you over while you decide what you want.

Had the fish and chips and they were a dream! The home made tartare sauce was amazing. The staff even told us what was in it that made it different. The batter on the fish was just delicious - as well as the fish itself. The home made bread with the balsamic and oils just "tickled my tastebuds" for ages afterwards.

Had a wonderful breakfast there this week and wanted to let people know what a wonderful find this place is! Great opening hours, a super choice on the menu (both food and drink) and really pleasant staff. I wanted a slight tweak to my Eggs Benedict and it was no problem.

While we were there, plenty of people came in to pick up takeaway orders/coffee so it seems to have a very happy customer base!

There's also an evening deal between 5:30pm and 7 where what you pay for your dish is determined by the time you order (eg order at 5:35, pay £5.35). With a choice of 7 dishes, it sounds like a good shout, and I'll certainly be back to give it a try.

In summary, really lovely surroundings, great variety on the menu and kitchen pulls it off well, nice staff, seem to be on top of being open 8am to 10pm for sitin and takeaway - give them a try, I think you'll like it.

I agree, excellent for brunch at the weekend, lovely cakes too. As for the service, I have always found it to be excellent, very friendly, chatty and helpful staff. Not a grump in sight!
