I live in the neighbourhood but didn't visit until I had friends visiting from U.S.

The portions were "Could I have a box?"-sized and the flavour of every dish we ordered was excellent.

It's not fancy, but it's very, very comfy. (And I've been to the pricier Italians "up the road" so I know whereof I speak).

La fontana is now under the sole ownership of Danny who is not only an excellent chef but also a warm and friendy host. My husband and I would rate this restaurant as the best Italian restaurant in Edinburgh.

On our last visit we were attended to by Danny's wife Marion who could not do enough for us. If you're looking for fab food, great service and a warm welcome La Fontana is the place to be.

Recently visited on a Friday evening. Found the staff extremely rude! Abysmal experience.

Okay - Italian's can be temperamental, expected! But to have the menus thrown at us, no eye contact, not even a word said. Then to be completely ignored for over 10 minutes!

...Well, no wonder the restaurant was completely empty during a peak time Friday evening! We walked straight out and across the road into The Orchard which we strongly recommend.

We would never return to this place. and predict it will be under new management soon!

We ate here a couple of weeks ago on a Friday evening. Despite having booked it seemed a problem for them to seat us in a two thirds empty restaurant. Have been before and the food is good but I totally agree with a former customer - the service is dire! The 2 older Italian waiters are really quite rude and ignorant and could do with a personality transplant. There were loads of offers posted in the window to entice people in, maybe they should look at the customer experience when people do visit - I guess that's what is putting people off from returning!

There are plenty other restaurants where you can get decent Italian food - up your service game or you won't survive.
