Mamma's American Pizza Co, 28-30 Grassmarket, EH1 2JU, Edinburgh

Went in here at the weekend with 3 friends for an early dinner. Tried some starters and 3 different pizzas.

The place was very busy and clearly well staffed so we were never waiting long. The starters were pretty average to be honest. Presentation was poor and the food itself was fine but nothing special. Certainly no better than what I can manage at home. We also had some bbq chicken wings which were quite basic.

For pizzas they do one good bit of service which is half in half pizzas with any amount of choice without penalising prices. No complaints on price at all. Pizza's themselves were all unfinished - we were hungry mind you.

We skipped dessert.

All in all decent value for money and we were fed but I've no intention of going back. I'd probablty try somewhere new instead. Having said that I'd not say you should avoid it - just that I wasn't very wowed by it.

Friendly people though and it was swift so if you need a quick bite it could be the one for you.

I met a group of friends here on a late Tuesday afternoon, we had a baby with us which ended in the mother & baby leaving due to a lack of facilites (very common in Edinburgh to be fair). It was quiet, and my friends had ordered starters by the time I arrived which were BBQ chicken wings, potato wedges and garlic bread which got sent back. The chicken wings were microwaved and had a samll squirt of sauce over the top, and seemed to be past their best anyway, the potato wedges seemed to manage to be very cooked externally and not cooked internally and the garlic bread was OK. Pretty poor though. We didn't accept the replacements offeredd or order any further food. They has the decency not to charge us and we went elsewhere. On the plus side they do have a decent range of beers and drinks though. One of our party said he had been recently and it had been decent but this was rubbish.

I love this place! Great for going with friends and in a couple. Easy, friendly atmosphere and it's affordable. I haven't tried the non pizza offerings but I love their pizza!

I have been to this restaurant a few times and it's really good food. Great pizza. The desserts are really great as well, in particular the 'Choco Wocko Wacko' and the banoffee pie. You can share them between a couple of you so it's good value too. The only off-put is the smell of anchovies if people order it on their pizza, but I guess that's not their fault. The staff are very friendly, the atmosphere is usually pretty nice and food is overall extremely good.

My wife and I went a while ago and we were sat at a small table in the middle of the floor, surrounded by 6 other tables with 8 people each all of whom had to squeeze past our table to leave or go to the bathroom.

The waitress station was behind our table and one of the waitresses then, in an attempt to get to the station, squeezed between my wifes chair and the station, nearly knocking my wife out her chair. I complained and asked to be moved. We were moved to a bigger table, which we were then asked to move from 5 minutes later because a disabled man had came into the restaurant and this table was apparently the only one they could sit him at. We were made to feel a little guilty by a different waiter that we had the disabled man's table (even though someone had sat us there, it wasn't like we demanded it) and when I asked to first see the table they were moving us to (to make sure it wasn't the same one we had first time) again I was stared at strangely. Like I had a problem with the disabled man, which of course I didn't. I felt sorry for him that the restaurant had so badly catered for the disabled that they had to move people around to accommodate him.

Eventually we were moved to our 3rd table, had some food and it was good but the table fiasco means I would never go back.
