This is a good place to go if you want lunch - they do filling sandwiches at a good rate.

However, I went here for dinner a couple of months ago and I found it to be quite expensive and the food wasn't very good. It could do with a good lick of paint also.

I expected dinner to be quite cheap considering it was in the heart of student territory but I struggled to find a decent main course for under £12 - which I think is over-priced considering the location and the kind of place that it is.

The only good point is that it is bring your own.

Nile Valley is good for a tasty sandwich at lunch-time but I would not recommend going here for dinner.

I was here very recently and found that the food ranged significantly in quality. My starter, which was aubergines with a yoghurt dressing, was simple and delicious. My main was a fish dish, which looked very impressive (it appeared that I had received two incredibly large fish on a huge plate) but alas, the fish had very little meat on them and it was a bit overcooked. We were seated in the basement (as it was too busy upstairs), which initially caused us to worry that we'd be forgotten, but the service was very good and friendly. Overall the experience was mixed, and not really value for money, but I'd perhaps go back and give this place a try again.

Rating based on the lunch menu only.

This place doesn't look like much from the outside, i've walked past it for years without so much as glancing in, however feeling a little more adventourous one lunchtime i took the plunge & after my first bite, knew i'd be back again, and again, and... yeah! They have a great selection of fillings (mostly vegetarian) that come wrapped in toasted african bread.

My personal favourites are the Baba Ganoush or Chicken with Humous, Avocado, chilli sauce & salad! (pictured)

Average cost of a wrap is between £2.50 - £3.50 & they are very filling & very tasty!

I love the Nile Valley! I have been eating here for years on my regular visits to Edinburgh and have always found it to be fantastic. It has a really genuine feel to it. While the surroundings are a bit rough and ready, this adds to the experience. It's all about the great food and warm atmosphere here. It's bring your own bottle, which keeps the bill very reasonable for the quality of the food. My favourites are the babaganoush to start and the Aswad Mossaga (a bit like a Sudanese version of Mousakka). This is a perfect place to enjoy a leisurely evening, sharing a host of delicious dishes with friends, finishing up with a clay pot of Sudanese coffee!

This is one of my favourite places to eat in Edinburgh. I recommend the wraps for lunch - African breads filled with falafel, fava beans or baba ganoush chilli sauce, yoghurt salad etc.

For dinner, I would recommend the kibdeh (liver) for starters and the mixed grill for main course - though there are lots of tasty curry-style dishes too. Also make sure you order some side dishes. There are plenty of real dishes for vegetarians also so it's a good choice for a mixed party.
