Ong Gie, 36 Buccleuch Street, EH8 9LP, Edinburgh

This place is a hidden gem for those who know and love Korean food.

You could walk past this place, look in and not bother going but for what it maybe lacks in decor and ambience; it definitely makes up for with service and food quality. Given that you will spend between £8-15 per person I don't think that the decor is too amiss though. The staff are all super friendly and Korean, so the food is authentic. Having spent about 6 months in Korea the food here really reminded me of the delights there. In general, Korean food is quite spicy and some of it is a bit of an acquired taste as things like kimchee (spicy pickled cabbage) are not something we are used too, but it's a cuisine well worth delving into. In Ong Gie the helpful owner is always willing to explain about the dishes as well which adds to the experience.

I really recommend the haggis-kimchee spring rolls (the owner says they are a homage to his two favourite cultures), the beef bulgogi (and the chicken version), any of their hot pots and the fried chicken is brilliant.

I've been in a few times now with friends and my wife, it's becoming a regular favourite that I highly recommend.
