Pallucci, 18-20 Forrest Road, EH1 2QN, Edinburgh

A group of us went here for lunch today. I was slightly worried as some of the group said at least the place looked cleaner than last time. We ordered from the special lunch menu, with all but one of us opting for the two courses for £6.95 (one diner chose 3 courses for 7.95).

I chose pate followed by chilli garlic penne. The pate was actually quite tasty. The toast that came with it was two tiny triangles and mine even came from the end of a loaf. The small salad that accompanied it was soggy but at least you knew it had been washed before serving!

The pasta was nothing special but was cooked the right amount. The adding of parmesan and black pepper made it more worthwhile although still not much to shout about. The sauce was a bit watery.

The pizzas that a couple of others in the party had ordered were of a good size and looked quite appetising. The meat option of chicken that two ordered came with chips. Not really what I'd expect of an italian restaurant. The service throughout was standard.

All in all if you want a quick meal that's cheap, this may do but I am sure there are better places you can choose.
