Rendevouz , 10a Queensferry Road, EH2 4PG, Edinburgh

In a nutshell, the food is good (for the price anyway), but it could do with a spruce up and some smiles from the staff.

Went in here once before for the buffet, it was very cheap at about £7 per person and there was a big selection of food on offer, all kept really hot (some so much so I nearly burned my hands on the serving tongs and had to wrap them in serviettes to handle a couple of them). They had some dessert options that weren't that good, but the main Chinese dishes were worth the money, not the best Chinese you'll have in Edinburgh but of you are looking for something cheap where you can fill up it does the job nicely.

However, as a restaurant it was quite drab and very out dated. I can imagine it was once nice years ago, but standards now aren't great. We never got a smile out of any of the staff who stood about chatting and seemed annoyed when we asked for something, but rather than get annoyed we found it quite amusing as some of them really didn't try to hide the fact they were grumpy. I'd rather an obviously grumpy waitress than someone trying to fake a smile and fail miserably.

I would go back, but only for the food and it would have to be when I wasn't feeling like spending much.
