I had fond memories of a take-away from Shapla a few years ago so had no hesitation trying it again.

Mostly the food was OK, nothing surprising. We ordered a chicken korma, lamb jalfrezie, aubergine side and a peshwari and garlic nan breads. These were all ok. The peshwari was nicer than at some of the other takeaways as it wasnt sickenly sweet nor was it hot pink in colour! A nice change. The two main were nothing special but they werent stellar either.

The big surprise did come with our saag panir side dish. The spinach was covered in melted coloured cheddar cheese. Thats correct. I couldnt believe it either. Would have much rathered them say that they were out of panir!

For a place that markets itself as award winning I would expect them to be a bit more true to the cuisine that they serve.

We have been using this takeaway since it opened in 1993. The food is excellent, particularly the chicken cooked in the tandoor which is always succulent and tasty. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Only problem is that we rarely go to a restaurant for a curry as few can compete with this takeaway.

We love this take-away place. Never ever disappoints us. Food always come on time, same as described in the menu, and the delivery man is always friendly. We have never had a stomach problem from this take-away shop. Hope they keep this quality (pleeeease!).

Food was too salty and the delivery time too long - avoid at all cost, plenty of good Indians close by.

Good day curry lovers,

A friend of a friend put me on to this lovely little diamond. I have tried and tested Indian Takeaways throughout Scotland and was skeptical at first as always.

Whilst entertaining guests I had a nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach as I have been let down by the standard of the classic curry houses in Edinburgh of late.

Long behold a Indian takeaway would actually arrive within the '40-45 minute' standard delivery time!!!

When I opened the dishes I was amazed that the food was still piping hot, there was no excess oil leeking out of the containers and the pompadoms were still 100% intact?!? Surely it couldn't get any better than this...

Well my Punjab pals it sure can! The Pakora's or 'Pakura' as the Shapla like to call them where freshly made crispy little critters with caramalised onions mixed into the equation. I made quick work of them, but they were so light (non greasy or microwaved) I was still salavating at the thought of my main dishes.

The rice was light and fluffy and separated with ease, the chicken was melt in your mouth stuff and WAS NOT off the processed block! There was a full array of flavours, cinnamon, star of east, garlic etc each new flavour coming through a bit at a time.

To round it off the delivery driver came back to the door after I had tipped him too much money?!? Punctuality, amazing dishes and an honest way of business what more could anyone ask for? I am a delighted customer, I only hope this was not beginners luck.

Flawless work (keep it up).

Punjab Pete.

I have been a customer here for nearly 10 years but I feel recently standards have slipped. Currys tend to be full of oil and rice and sometimes are not hot enough.

Nonetheless, the flavours are exquisite compared to other places in Edinburgh. I also hear on the grapevine that this place continually has visits from health and safety which has given me reason for concern.

I'm seriously reconsidering ordering from here as the service on the phone is so rude and abrupt and the always try and flog you extras. It's bad enough the price has been creeping up year on year. The delivery service is a plus point as they are always delivered prompt and on time the majority of the time.

Unfortunately our food was cold when it arrived (20 minutes after the website said it would). The 2 curries we ordered tasted exactly the same despite claiming to be 2 different dishes. We ordered from here as it used to be good but I was less than impressed.

Honestly the best curries we have ever, or ever will, have tasted. The chicken is so succulent it will melt in your mouth. If you haven't been to the Shapla yet then go!
