Great place to eat on a miserable winter evening. For a fairly standard looking pub, the menu is full of really excellent choices a bit more interesting than average. I had a the pork belly - a huge, rolled chunk of pork cooked nicely, if not perfectly, sat atop a disk of well- sourced black pudding, bacon, cabbage and mash. A huge portion, replete with meaty goodness - a ribsticking piggy symphony perfectly suited to a gluttonous porcineophile like me. I also tried the fish and chips which featured very nicely cooked fish in a slightly under-seasoned batter with good chips, nice homemade tartar sauce and perfunctory mushy peas. Home made sticky toffee pudding suffered a dearth of toffee sauce, but was moist and sweet nonetheless. Throw in a couple of pints of Black Sheep, and a couple of mint-teas for digestion and you have a pretty good way of spending £40. Ever so slightly pricy, but the portions are huge and the kitchen clearly cares and knows what its doing (I could see the chef at work). Only negative was the surly spanish (?) waitress.

Locally sourced organic produce used here. Cool, chilled surroundings, fab food and not a bad wine list either. I had the Aberdeen Angus burger (a 'proper' burger, a few inches thick) which comes piled high with bacon, cheese, onion rings, green lettuce (none of that iceberg nonsense) and tomato. The hand cut chips were well tasty too. My other half had the pork belly, black pudding and mash, he asked the friendly staff to tell the chef he was a genius, but they didn't want chef's head to get too big, haha.

The menu also had sandwiches and salads. The only negative is that I was too full to try one of the yummy sounding desserts, so will have to go back one day.

Proudly served me a pint of Deuchars IPA which was short (despite a requested top-up), flat and sour. Told me that "it's not a lager", that they'd changed the cask the night before, that they'd been serving it all day without complaints and that an earlier drinker had commended them on its quality. Refund and exchange refused.
