They now have pizzas! There is a little handwritten sign at the counter expressing this. Did not see any coming out of the little kitchen and they are not on the menu... but looks like you can get them.

Taking into account the price, service and food (of course) plus the BYOB option this place is great. Simple traditional italian at really bottom basement prices this place is a gem. Huge menu with half of the items "what mama used to make". If your grandmother is Sicilian - this is probably the food that she made indeed.

The extensive laminated one page menu consists of the classic favourites, pasta - and lots of it, meat options like osso bucco which as soon as I eyeballed I knew that's what I wanted, unfortunately they were out of it but the waitress was happy to recommend another dish, I forget the name but it was a minute steak with a rich tomato sauce served with veggies and surprise - potatoes. My partner had the canneloni stuffed with cheese and spinach. We got sides of mushrooms and spinach which were cooked typical italian style - to death. But tasty.

Everything that came looked homemade and definitely something that your mama would serve to you. The vast array of microwaves in the kitchen which you can see from the table area is a bit disturbing but I didn't hear a single "ding" while we were there. This could have been drowned out by the strange Italian remixed tunes playing in the place but the food didnt seem to have been nuked.

For sweets I hoped for panna cotta but there was chocolate gateau and cappuccino. Maybe next time and osso bucco too!

A great place if you want something down to earth, real food nothing fancy and in a stellar location if you are in the area. There are so many Italian places right in the vicinity but this little trattoria hits the spot. Will definitely be back for more. Highly recommended for some no nonsense food but not first date material unless you are into plasticy table cloths!

Amasing hard to find little restaurant in a basement in Union Street.

This is between a delicatessen and a restaurant but still has its Italian charms and looks good overall.

Food is all home made in the back and tastes great. The menu is huge and the prices so sweet!

And it is one of the rare Italians where you'll get more that pastas and pizzas only!

And the BYOB bottle option has no charge / corkage fee!

Really really good value for money!!! Especially in this area!!

I've visited here a couple of times lately and it is a wee gem. No pizza on the menu. I've had Spaghetti Bolognaise (£5.95) a spicy Penne dish (same price). All succulent and flavour-packed and wholesome. They also do beautiful garlic bread, decent cheap house wine and a proper black coffee (if you tell them you want it strong).

Price overall is circa £30 for 2 for bread, pasta dish each, carafe of wine & coffee.

It's too bright, music's too loud and it's cramped but for me that all adds to the charm.

Give them a go if you're ever at the top of Leith Walk or on Broughton Street. Better than most of the options around there.
